Project #1
Clinica Esperanza provides low-cost/no cost medical care to the people of Roatan. Patients can receive services from the walk-in medical clinic, women's health center, pediatrics inpatient hospital, birthing center, and adult and pediatrics dental clinics with support from a laboratory and pharmacy. The clinic also provides outreach clinics and community health education programs.
Project #2
Familias Saludables is a nonprofit, nondenominational organization devoted to fighting the AIDS epidemic on Roatan and the Bay Islands. Our major focus is on reducing the incidence of mother-to-child transmission of the virus both at birth and via breast milk. We run testing clinics for pregnant women, assign trained home visitors for mothers living with HIV/AIDS, provide education to the public, provide palliative training services and, when available, we provide infant formula, medications, and a host of supplies to support families struggling to cope with this disease. In addition, we fund and organize a school for children here in the local community, many of whom have been part of our program's success.
